The EVENT:
Over the past 9 years, “Quake on the Lake” has gained a reputation as one of the premier summertime events in/around Oakland County, Michigan. It has become a “must attend” event for North American Inboard Hydroplane owners and drivers; and since its inception, nearly 300,000 people have witnessed world-record racing performances from the top teams in the business. The event is the proud recipient of 15 American Power Boat Association (APBA) records being set in 5 different racing classes making Pontiac Lake one of the fastest one-mile race courses in the country!
The “Quake on the Lake” has also received numerous industry accolades including multiple APBA Mach Series Region VI “Promoter of Year” awards as well as 2006 APBA Mach Series Region VI “Race Chairman of the Year’ for Chairman Dale Hampshire.
The ANNIVERSARY:
Few events can boast of staying power, but the “Quake on the Lake” sure can! The organizers – the Oakland County Community Club – have committed their energies and resources to ensure that each year continues with tremendous growth and enhancements.
This summer, we will mark our 10th Anniversary! To celebrate, the event will also feature the APBA Inboard Hydroplane Eastern Divisional Championships which ensures that over 100 of the best boat racers from across North America will be in attendance to compete for the much-coveted industry championship title in 10 different racing classes. A Wakeboarding competition and exhibition will take place on Saturday as well.
The LOCATION:
The 10th Annual “Quake on the Lake” APBA Inboard Hydroplane Races featuring the Eastern Divisional Championships will take place between White Lake and Waterford townships at the Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area. Located in the heart of Oakland County that ranks second in per capita income for counties with over one million people and in the top one percent of all counties in the United States based on its coveted, triple AAA bond rating, Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area provides an ideal setting for an event of this caliber. Pontiac Lake’s shorelines and abundance of trees naturally protect the water from winds providing a smooth racecourse for the competitors, and the beautiful 1/3-mile long sandy beach provides the perfect entertainment area and vantage point for all the high speed action!
