5 minutes Gun 5 Minutes Before Start

The preparatory gun will be fired five minutes before the start of the race and at this time at the Judges Stand a Green Flag and four minute targets will be displayed above the clock. As each minute elapes on of the targets will be removed or blanked out, the remaining signals indicating the number of minutes remaining before the firing of the one minute gun.

Exactly sixty seconds before the start, the one minute warning gun shall be fired, a white flag displayed at the Judges Stand and the clock set in motion. The Red Flag shall be immediately lowered.

False Start

In the event of a false start (as defined in rule XII) the starter will display the red flag and when all boats in the starting field have circled and passed back to the 500 foot starting buoy, in position to make another start, the one minute gun will be fired and the starting signals repeated as described above.

The official start shall be the exact instant when the hand of the starting clock indicates that the final minute has elapsed and at this moment the starter shall drop the while flag to indicate that the race has officially started and a starting gun may be fired to call attention to the dropping of the white flag.
